The good thing about alternative energies is that their sources are not just renewable; they can also be found in unexpected places. In the case of biomass, some in the United States have had the idea of using the debris from the devastation left by hurricanes as fuel for a biodiesel plant.
In Houston, Texas, Biofuels Power Corporation will manage a 4 MW power plant project using its own woodchips and the other debris left in the wake of Hurricane Ike, alongside a system to capture and store the plant's emissions at an old oilfield that has been abandoned for 50 years. And perhaps, through commitment to carbon sequestration which is another frontier in eco-sustainable technology, it will be possible to obtain more oil. But that's another story.
